Restore The Town

Official development material says areas can be reclaimed and restored, with housing and businesses affecting markets and resource availability. Exact construction costs and progression details have not yet been announced.

Zombies as workers—and fighters

Zombies are described as operating semi-automated machinery, taking production roles, having skills, and using weapons and armor. The September 18 combat devlog confirms district-specific Town battles, sewer combat, barricades, towers, placeable zombie-fighter squads, and the option to lead those squads by raising their banner. It does not publish construction costs, squad limits, or combat values.

A modular graveyard

Official material says graveyard modules are unlocked through a technology tree. Specific unlock requirements have not yet been announced, and systems from the first game may not apply to the sequel.

3D world, fixed perspective

The sequel is presented as a 3D world while retaining a fixed camera perspective. Development material also discusses dynamic shadows, day/night presentation, weather, wind, and fog.

A larger world and a new story

The September 2 development log says the explorable world extends beyond The Town to its southern outskirts, another village, tavern, forest, swamp, church, and graveyard. It places the sequel’s story eight years after the original game and says both new and returning characters appear. The developers did not publish a map size, quest count, or story length.

Graveyard Keeper 1 vs 2: which differences are documented?

The official Old World — New Story devlog places the sequel eight years later, expands the world beyond The Town and replaces the returning Teleportstone with Milestone fast travel. It describes a returning Technology Tree alongside a new talent system. The official visuals announcement presents the sequel’s 3D world and fixed perspective; the combat devlog adds the Town and sewer battle context described above.

These named differences help identify which game a guide applies to. They do not make the first game’s recipes or unlock sequence valid in the sequel. For the new cemetery-area task, use the graveyard layout checks; for production use factory setup.

Talents and fast travel

The familiar Technology Tree returns alongside a new talent system. The Teleportstone does not return; unlocked locations are instead connected by Milestones for fast travel. The announcement does not specify talent effects, Milestone locations, unlock costs, or travel limits.

Item-pushing perk teaser

Lazy Bear Games’ September 19 social post says: “you can now push up to 4 fewer items in front of you with this brand new perk.” The post does not name the perk or explain its unlock path, cost, duration, or how “fewer items” is calculated, so those details remain unknown.
