Flax in Graveyard Keeper 2
Flax currently shows a gardening requirement of 5 in player reports. If your base gardening is 4 and Green Thumb should raise your effective skill, red planting results may come from plot quality or fertilizer—but multiple players have also reported that the perk does not always apply as expected.

Flax planting checklist
- Record planting mastery before spending seeds. Compare the displayed requirement with your base skill, equipped tools and Green Thumb bonus. The Flax-specific report describes base gardening 4, an expected +2 perk bonus, requirement 5, and occasional red squares—not a controlled proof of the cause.
- Separate planting from growth. Record the planting squares, then inspect plot quality and fertilizer for the growth stage. A growth-speed recommendation is not proof that fertilizer fixes a planting-mastery mismatch.
- Run a small comparison. Use the same seed quality on one bed, keep tools and perks unchanged, and record squares, growth progress and harvested seeds before changing one variable. Do not spend your entire seed stock testing a perk.
- If only automation fails, test manually. Try the same bed yourself before replacing the worker or rebuilding. Record whether the failure is planting, growth, or harvest; those are different reports.
Does Green Thumb work with Flax?
The Flax report and a separate Green Thumb report using beets describe an expected +2 bonus not matching observed planting results. Neither establishes a guaranteed fix. If your UI still shows the lower mastery, capture it with the perk and equipped tools visible rather than assuming better fertilizer applies the missing bonus.
When is fertilizer worth spending on Flax?
A community growth explanation reports these effective growth thresholds for Flax: 5–9 gives one growth tick, 10–14 gives two, and 15+ gives three. Treat this as a player model, not an official formula. Under that model, moving from 8 to 9 does not cross a speed threshold; moving from 9 to 10 does. Check the bed's displayed value and observe progress before committing fertilizer to every plot.
Improved seeds are a separate question. Players disagree about fertilizer and higher-quality seeds: one says all four planting squares must succeed and fertilizer only changes speed; a later reply disputes that and credits crop-boosting fertilizer's extra tick. This is not a guarantee of upgraded seeds. Keep seed quality and fertilizer type in your comparison log; do not treat a single harvest as a proven drop rule.
Flax, “flachs,” and zombie farming
Official change in 1.009: the developer's changelog states: Fixed error pop-ups when a gardener zombie tried to harvest a crop that was already gone.
It also states: Fixed gardener zombies getting stuck on a broken harvest. They return to the station, and a harvest that keeps failing is left for you.
These are general gardener fixes, not a Flax-specific yield or mastery change.
If a bed is left behind: confirm your installed build includes that fix, then manually harvest the failing bed and check whether the worker resumes other jobs. A zombie returning to its station while leaving a repeatedly failing harvest is behavior described by the patch—not proof that the entire garden has stopped. If manual harvesting also fails, save the affected bed and report the build, crop, fertilizer and error text rather than repeatedly reassigning the zombie.
Flachs is the German search term for flax, not evidence of a second crop. If a zombie is assigned to a Flax plot, first confirm that the same bed can be planted and harvested manually, then check seeds, displayed gardening requirement, worker assignment, pathing, and output room. That is a diagnostic checklist—not a verified claim that zombies bypass Flax’s gardening requirement or Green Thumb behavior.
For the worker side of the loop, use the release-build zombie hub. For the hive side of the garden route, see where the beehives are reported. No official source reviewed here publishes exact zombie-Flax timing, seed consumption, or mastery rules.
What is Flax used for?
Before scaling production, open the recipe that is asking for Flax and check whether it requires the crop itself, a processed material, or a specific quality. This evidence set does not verify a current-build processing recipe or output table, so do not substitute a first-game recipe or a demo formulation claim. Reserve enough seed for your next planting before spending the harvest.
Flax FAQ
Is “flachs” a different item?
No separate item is established by the evidence reviewed here. “Flachs” is the German word for flax and appears in multilingual searches for the same crop.
Does a red field prove the perk is broken?
No. Record when it appears: planting mastery, growth quality and zombie harvest failures need separate checks. A growth fertilizer result does not verify the perk bonus.
Is this a confirmed developer bug?
It is a player-reported issue in the official Steam bug-report forum. This page does not convert that report into an official diagnosis.
