Graveyard Keeper 2 Zombie Mine Guide

Before assigning anyone, clear at least one blockage between the mine and your house — player reports say the zombie-mining technology does not appear on the tree until that route is open. Then place the reported station pair (a miner and a porter) and make sure the zombie has a walkable path to the delivery point. The checks below separate the remaining access, tool, and output problems.

GUIDE REVIEWED: SEPTEMBER 26, 2026EVIDENCE: CURRENT PLAYER REPORTSSTATUS: PATH GATE REPORTED — VERIFY IN YOUR BUILD

The hidden gate: clear the path first

  1. Clear at least one blockage on the mine–house route. One player cleared the blockage next to the Supply Storage (enter the writing basement; it is the block on the right); another points to the path north of the mine. Two players in the same discussion report the technology appearing after a route is open; this is not independent site reproduction.
  2. Expect no tech node before that. One reporter describes checking the mine interaction, the pickaxe, and the technology menu and finding nothing — because the mining technology appears only after the path is cleared. An empty tree is not proof the feature is missing from your game.
  3. Place a miner and a porter. One answer says zombie mining needs both a miner station and a porter station, not just the mine interaction itself.
  4. Give the zombie a delivery path. Another reply explains the idle behavior directly: zombies need a walkable path to the factory or storage point in order to deliver goods. This is that reply’s explanation, not an isolated test of the cause; see the reporter’s different delivery observation below.

Path gate evidence: two routes, one unresolved reason

Source rechecked October 16, 2026. The September 25 thread distinguishes a suggested northern route from a reported success: blackhawk01x suggests the north path and explicitly doubts the writing-basement part; knguyen2081 reports clearing the blockage by Supply Storage, on the right when entering the writing basement. Another reply reports the mining technology appearing after a path was cleared. No NPC or named quest prerequisite is established by that thread.

The delivery explanation is a different player's inference. The successful reporter says the zombies dropped loads in the room adjacent to the mine, and questions why a house connection was needed. Clearing a path is a supported player-reported unlock attempt; the thread does not prove a universal destination, exact logistics rule, or that both blockages must be cleared. Keep the miner/porter setup separate from the hidden technology gate.

Mining unlock and output routing

Separate the unlock route from a post-delivery stall. The official PC Update 1.009 note says zombies at the sawmill, mine, clay pit and sand pit were fixed when getting stuck after carrying the result back. That addresses a named worker-return symptom, not the hidden path gate or a universal mine repair. Compare your platform and installed patch with that note before treating an older stall report as current.

Keep the checks separate: clear the reported route gate → inspect the Mining unlock and local blueprint → assign the miner → inspect output storage → observe the porter route. A stationary miner and an uncollected load are different failures. The Zombie Supplier Station and factory Supply Station are distinct systems; neither name alone establishes the mine's destination. The original thread's adjacent-room output report still limits claims about a universal house or factory delivery route.

How to get Coal: assign a Zombie Miner at the Old Mine

Put a zombie holding a pickaxe on a Zombie Miner at the Old Mine. The community's extracted Zombie Miner record lists 1 Iron Ore + 2 Coal per round, deposited into the mine's storage. Coal is a mining output, not an ore-smelting ingredient you need to make at home first.

  1. Open the mine route and inspect Zombie Mining. The extracted record lists 60 red + 10 blue, after Iron Smithing; the player-reported hidden path gate above still matters if the node is absent.
  2. Build the Zombie Miner at the mine's build desk: the record lists 2 Wooden Planks + 4 Bricks. Assign the zombie with a pickaxe, then watch the local storage after a round rather than only checking your backpack.
  3. Move the output onward. Inspect the mine storage and the porter/delivery setup separately. If work stops, check coal-full storage even when ore storage is empty; clearing it is a diagnostic attempt, not a confirmed fix.

A Gem is not a guaranteed mining output. The same extracted record makes it conditional on the zombie's Magpie's Eye talent, with a 10% chance per round; without that talent it lists no Gem. Do not count a Gem in every batch of Coal and ore.

The Coal item record lists the Zombie Miner as its acquisition source and Coal as an input for the Factory's Smithy. This does not provide a manual Coal seam or a shop-buying route. For the smithy, take the Coal out of mine storage and follow the Steel and Royal Foundry route; an uncollected mining output is not yet a delivered factory input.

The listed yields, technology cost and talent chance are historical-build values, not verified for PC 1.010 or consoles. Pickaxe timing and a universal porter destination are not established by this guide.

Coal: do not promise an upgrade threshold

The coal-stockpile stall report below describes coal and ore storage in that player's setup. It does not establish a coal-unlocking upgrade tier. Use the sourced Zombie Miner route above and compare the live mine's outputs with that historical record; inspect coal and ore destinations separately before upgrading. We do not infer a natural gold deposit from mine or Gem discussions.

Assignment checklist

Worker

Assign the zombie through the mine’s current interaction. Merely carrying or dropping a zombie nearby does not prove it has the job.

Stations

One player answer reports that zombie mining uses a miner station plus a porter station. Check both exist before debugging the worker.

Tool

Player routes associate mining with a pickaxe. Use the tier requested by the live UI rather than importing a value from the first game or demo.

Output

Clear the destination and watch one work cycle. A full, disconnected, or path-blocked output can look like an idle-worker bug.

If the zombie mine is not working

  1. No assignment option: clear the mine–house route first — reports say the technology appears only after a blockage is cleared — then re-check construction state and quest progression.
  2. No mining technology on the tree: treat it as the reported path gate, not a missing feature, until the route is open and the tree is rechecked.
  3. Zombie accepts the job but stays idle: recheck mastery, tool durability or tier, and whether a walkable delivery path exists to the factory or storage point.
  4. Work animation occurs but nothing arrives: inspect output storage, the porter side of the station pair, and any separate hauling step.
  5. Production stops later: clear output, confirm the tool is still usable, and check whether the worker was reassigned.
Patch context: Update 1.006 fixed zombie red tech-point rewards, some work audio, kitchen behavior, and collision cases. It did not publish a zombie-mine production table or claim to fix every mine issue.

Coal full but ore storage empty: a reported miner stall

September 27, 2026 player reports; reviewed October 4. In a coal-stockpile bug report, one reply suggests manually removing stored output to free space. The reporter's counter-report says the miner also produces ore and stopped even though the ore stockpile was still vacant. Empty ore storage alone therefore does not rule out the reported coal-side stall.

Inspect coal and ore destinations separately, record their contents, and move stored coal to other storage before observing another work cycle. This is a diagnostic comparison, not a confirmed workaround or an independently reproduced cause. If production remains stalled, record the assignment, porter route, platform and installed build when reporting it. The PC 1.008 zombie fixes discussed on the zombie hub do not establish that this miner report is resolved on every platform or save.

Confirmed observation vs inference

You can confirm in your save whether the mine has an assignment interaction, whether a zombie is shown in the slot, whether work animation occurs, and whether output increases. Those are direct observations.

Do not infer without another test that silence means no work, that a nearby chest is connected, that every pickaxe tier is valid, or that a stalled loop proves a global bug. Change one condition and watch one cycle.

What to check in your game: The path gate, the miner-plus-porter pair, and the delivery-path behavior are player reports cited below, not official documentation. The Coal section separately attributes its yield and unlock values to an extracted historical build. Current-build work duration, mastery breakpoint, zombie capacity and transport radius are not verified here.

Connect the mine to the rest of the route

For manual ore access, start with where to find iron. If the mined material is for a town delivery, use the Orders, Jack, and warehouse guide. For general worker setup and the zombie-limit boundary, return to the zombie hub.
