How to Get and Charge the Hypno Device in Graveyard Keeper 2

Where to look for the seller and quest trigger
Community records checked October 16, 2026: Congregation Trouble names the Astrologer as the seller and says to buy the device in his tower, charge it at the Formulation Bench, and return it. The same wiki's Gunter record identifies him as the Astrologer in the Port's Astrologer's Tower.
The quest record follows Friendship Written in the Stars: meet Gunter after your next ceremony, ask about declining sermon attendance, then obtain and charge the device. Its shop record lists the device for sale at tier III; at tiers I/II it is listed only as something he buys. A buy-back entry is not an available purchase. The shop's “after Congregation Trouble” tier label does not pin down the exact dialogue transition within the quest.
This adds a named community acquisition route to the older unnamed Steam account; the wiki pages are one source family, not independent confirmation. The precise dialogue/shop transition and current platform behavior remain untested by this site. If the device is absent, distinguish an earlier quest stage or buy-back listing from the separate player's lost-purchase-option report below.
Hypno Device steps
- Look for Gunter's sale listing during Congregation Trouble. The community quest and shop records above name the Astrologer; the older Steam author only says “from him.” Keep that source difference in mind and retain the uncharged device for the bench.
- Unlock the Formulation Bench. A release-build player places its technology under Church Lighting.
- Find and use the correct station. Use the Formulation Bench guide if the basement or laboratory wording is unclear.
- Interact with the Formulation Bench. Do not use the Story-writing desk merely because another answer casually calls the workstation a desk.
- Select the Hypno Device operation. Supply the device and the reported cost of 1 Faith, then collect the charged item.
What “abandoned tower” appears to mean
The quest wording has led players to search for a separate abandoned-tower interaction. Two replies in one release-build thread point instead to the Formulation Bench in the alchemy or basement work area. That is agreement within one discussion, not an official location confirmation.
What is it for? Zombie PR
Players discussing the zombie PR and limit system describe paying to charge Hypno Devices while trying to handle PR penalties. This is the reported context for the device, not proof of a fixed duration, exact penalty-removal rule, or universal cost beyond the one-Faith charging answer. One player says a charged device's PR effect expired on sermon day and they could not pay again until the next day; use your current game's PR prompt rather than planning around that anecdote.

Astrologer recharge: planned, not the current bench route
Official plans: October 2, 2026; reviewed October 4. The future-plans announcement says Hypno-devices “will be rechargeable through the Astrologer.” This is planned, not a charging operation confirmed as released in 1.008. It does not identify the unnamed seller in the older purchase report.
To charge a device now, keep the player-reported Formulation Bench route: use the Church Lighting reply and the 1 Faith charging reply. If the bench operation is missing, use the checks below; an absent Astrologer recharge option is not proof that the current bench route is broken.
If the operation does not appear
- For a missing charging recipe, compare your progress with the Congregation Trouble charging step; the community item record ties the recipe to that quest, rather than merely owning a bench.
- Move the Hypno Device into ordinary accessible inventory.
- Verify that the Church Lighting/Formulation Bench technology is unlocked.
- Bring at least the reported 1 Faith.
- Make sure the station is the Formulation Bench, not the Writing Desk.
