Alchemy Guide for Graveyard Keeper 2
Inspect an item's description before spending Faith on alchemy research. Release-build players report that an eligible, unresearched material displays two Runes ??? lines; items without those rune fields have no alchemical properties. Research eligible materials to reveal their runes, then discover formulas through experiments or technology unlocks.
Alchemy discovery loop
- Inspect the item description. Look for two rune-property lines. Before research, eligible items are reported to display
Runes ???. - Skip items with no rune fields. Do not spend Faith expecting every ordinary item to become an alchemical ingredient.
- Research an eligible material. Use the available research interface and pay the cost shown in your current build to reveal its rune properties.
- Check station access separately from learning a formula. Use sequel UI names. Correct Laboratory mixes can discover unknown formulas; technology can reveal a formula, while Formulation Bench operations have their own technology gates.
- Experiment with researched ingredients. Match the required runes and available slots; a technology entry that reveals a formula does not by itself prove it is required to mix that result.
If alchemy research does not work
Does the item show Runes ???
Inspect its description first. The cited launch-build discussion says items without rune-property fields do not have an alchemical property to reveal.
Does the research UI show a cost?
Use the cost and progress shown by your current interface. This page does not assume a universal Faith value or workstation tier.
Does the formula come from technology?
Technology can reveal formulas without blind experiments. The later player explanation below separates learning a formula from permission to mix it; Formulation Bench operations still have their own gates.
Laboratory slots, Science, and missing flasks
Laboratory I has two ingredient slots; Laboratory II has three. Slots are not rune counts: one ingredient can contribute several runes. Study ingredients at the Study Table, add their red/green/blue values, and match the result exactly; no color may exceed 5.
- Need Science? The community database lists decomposing 1 Clean Paper → 1 Science, 1 Science Kit I → 30 Science, or 1 Science Kit II → 60 Science at the Study Table. Decomposition consumes the supply item. Research costs vary by item; do not assume every study costs the same Faith.
- Flasks in your backpack but mixing blocked? Put Alchemy Flasks on the Flask shelf/rack in the same room. The historical database says backpack flasks do not count. Check the floor for the finished mixture before assuming production failed.
- Fuel prompt unclear? Follow the actual station UI. The reviewed alchemy sources disagree about fuel; the Distillation Cube's fuel recipes do not establish a universal fuel rule for Laboratory mixing.

Useful two-slot ingredient matches
Use one of each named ingredient below after studying it; repeated ingredients occupy separate slots. RGB means red/green/blue, not output quantity. All these two-ingredient matches fit Laboratory I or II. The named technology fields are formula/progression references, not proof that buying them is mandatory for every Laboratory mix. Check the separate technology for a subsequent Formulation Bench operation.
- Preservative — RGB 0/3/0: Water + Swamp Mushroom; Embalming I. Three green runes do not require a three-slot laboratory. A separate player discussion also reports making Preservative in Lab I.
- Dream Dust — RGB 0/1/1: Water + Blood; Alchemy, Basic.
- Paint — RGB 0/2/0: Water + Water; Paint technology.
- Lacquer — RGB 0/0/2: Blood + Blood; Lacquer technology.
- Red Organ Improver — RGB 4/1/0: Stone + Copper Nugget; check Practical Potions after Alchemy, Advanced.
- White Organ Improver — RGB 0/4/0: Flour + Flour; the same Practical Potions progression.
Making an improver is not the same as improving an organ. The latter is a Formulation Bench operation with its own Anatomy requirement. White improver is not a promise to remove every red skull.
The linked community records supply rune matches and technology fields, not proven per-batch yields. No output quantity is inferred from the rune total; shared extracted datasets are not independent cross-checks.
Alkali, Tannin Liquid, and Reanimation Liquid
Historical community data: the GK2DB alchemy response was collected October 4, 2026 from a database identifying build 4599483364566526977; field interpretation was reviewed October 13. On October 16 the original site did not resolve from this review's network, and a separate web fetch failed. The linked source is retained, but the entries below are not newly verified 1.010 or console recipes, official confirmation, or a site playtest. No authenticated onward migration was found. The predecessor site still exposes an older Alkali item record identifying the same build; it is a same-source historical reference, not independent corroboration or proof of the current mixed-formula table. Its Alkali prose specifies a three-slot Laboratory II while its row says Laboratory I; that internal station-capacity disagreement remains unresolved. Agreement with another wiki may reflect the same extracted data.
For Alkali and Tannin Liquid, use Laboratory II's three slots and check Crafting Potions. The Alkali database match includes 1 Peat + 1 Peat + 1 Beeswax (RGB 1/4/2); the Tannin Liquid match includes 1 Clay + 1 Tin + 1 Beeswax (RGB 4/2/1). The historical Laboratory I label cannot accommodate these three ingredients. Selected older item fields follow for provenance, not as current direct-crafting instructions. Mixed sequences are rune requirements, not yields or tech-point rewards.
- Alkali (
alkali) — runes 1-4-2: Beeswax + Guts ★★★ + Berry, Leaf, or Water. The Alchemist at tier III is another listed source. Its downstream use includes Master Sword. The item record's Alcohol + Acid direct formula is not an actionable station recipe: Acid is marked no known source. Crafted field: time 6; 2 green + 1 blue tech points. - Tannin Liquid (
liquid_harden) — runes 4-2-1: Beeswax + Tin + Clay, Beeswax + Tin + Sand, or Cheese + Copper Nugget + Clay. It is also listed at Alchemist tier III and is an ingredient for Master Armor. The Alcohol + Glue direct formula has the same limitation: Glue has no known source, and no usable station is established by that item entry. Crafted field: time 6; 2 red + 1 blue tech points. The display name is Tin even though its internal item ID islead. - Reanimation Liquid (
resurrection_balm) — runes 2-1-4: Brain ★★★ + Cheese + Clay or Sand; Brain ★★★ + Tin + Berry is another listed mix. Gunter and the Alchemist are purchase alternatives. Alcohol + Catalyst is not recommended because Catalyst has no known source. Crafted field: time 1; 1 red + 1 green + 1 blue tech points. See the zombie guide for the technology, room-storage requirement, and conflict with an older player recipe.
The cached Steel Anvil recipes make the downstream distinction concrete: 1 Alkali + 4 Steel Detail + 3 Steel Ingot → 1 Master Sword, versus 1 Tannin Liquid + 4 Steel Detail + 6 Fabric → 1 Master Armor. Both entries list Masterwork Equipment, Smithing mastery 15, 12 ticks, and 2 energy per tick. Those are work-recipe fields, not factory power draw or seconds, and they do not establish a distillation recipe for either intermediate.
The Alcohol + Acid, Alcohol + Glue, and Alcohol + Catalyst direct fields above have no usable station established in the reviewed records, so they are not recommended recipes. Their presence does not establish when they were used or whether they were demo placeholders; crafted time/reward fields alone do not validate a production route. For Solution for Zombies, the community Formulation Bench database lists 1 Alcohol + 1 Preservative → 1 Solution for Zombies, requiring Reanimation Liquid technology and Anatomy 6. The technology name is not an ingredient instruction. Get Alcohol from the Distillation Cube; vendor tiers above are historical sources, not a verified unlock walkthrough.
Rich growth elixir is not Miracle growth elixir
Rich growth elixir has runes 1 red + 3 green in Laboratory I or II. The historical examples include Beeswax + Water, matching the player lead below without establishing a per-batch yield. It feeds Farming Fertilizer II; do not treat the old direct-upgrade field as a route to Miracle.
Miracle growth elixir instead needs 1 red + 5 green. The community rune database lists 1 Pumpkin + 1 Beeswax as a two-slot match. A separate player discussion reports Beeswax + Fragrance, or Beeswax + Onion + Water. Use the live tome if you want a revealed formula, and check ingredient research, slots and flasks before mixing; these matches do not prove output quantity. The historical Rich growth elixir + Cinnabar direct entry has no usable workbench according to the older item record, so it is not a recommended production route. That record does not establish that the entry was a demo placeholder. Miracle feeds Farming Fertilizer III, not II.
The cached Formulation Bench recipe lists 8 Peat + 1 Miracle growth elixir → 1 Farming Fertilizer III, unlocked by Fertilizers IV, with Anatomy mastery 4, 6 ticks, 3 energy per tick, and 8 green tech points. This fertilizer recipe's costs and unlock are not the costs or unlock for mixing the elixir itself.
For both elixirs, Mixed vectors are rune totals. Historical Crafted time/reward fields do not validate an inaccessible direct recipe or establish a usable station. The linked databases may share extracted data; the player reports below are separate observations, not a site playtest.
Rich Growth Elixir for Farming Fertilizer 2
A September 25 player answer gives a useful unlock-and-lookup route instead of requiring blind rune guessing:
- To reveal the formula, inspect the Rich Growth Elixir technology. Buying it is the cited player’s lookup route, not a universal requirement to mix a correct Laboratory combination.
- Open the alchemy recipe tome in the tower. The player says the recipe appears there after buying the technology.
- Follow the formula shown in your save. Use the live tome and station to check ingredients and output before spending materials for Farming Fertilizer 2.
This sequence is grounded in a release-build player reply, not an official recipe manual or independently reproduced walkthrough. Ingredient suggestions and uncertain rune counts in the same discussion are not a patch-safe formula table; this page does not copy demo rune formulas or promise a universal ingredient combination. If you want the tome entry and it is missing, recheck the technology purchase. If you already know a valid mix, check the studied ingredients, slots and flasks instead; the missing entry alone does not prove mixing is blocked.
Rich Growth Elixir: beeswax and water reports
September 25, 2026 player reports from two separate threads; reviewed October 4. The Rich Growth Elixir reply names beeswax and water, alongside the technology unlock and tower recipe tome route above. A separate fertilizer discussion reply also names beeswax and water and says to check the relevant technology.
These remain directly sourced player reports, not an independently tested recipe or an official formula. The cached item record now corroborates Beeswax + Water as a Rich growth elixir mix with runes 1-3, as detailed above. Confirm the live station and whether both ingredients have been studied. Technology is the optional formula-reveal route described above; an absent tome entry is not by itself a universal mixing barrier.
Why this page does not publish a full recipe table
The selected community-database matches above give practical starting points, not a complete patch-safe recipe database. Keep rune matching, usable station recipes, and historical entries without a usable station separate, and use the live tome for your build's unlocks.

Alchemy FAQ
How can you tell whether an item has alchemical properties?
Release-build players say an eligible unresearched item shows two Runes ??? lines in its description.
Do you need to research every item?
No. Community reports say items without rune-property fields do not reveal alchemical properties.
Are all formulas discovered by trial and error?
No. Players report a mix of experimentation and formulas unlocked through the technology tree.
Unknown formula, technology, or not enough slots?
A correct Laboratory mix can discover a formula you have not bought. An October 7 player explanation distinguishes that from Formulation Bench operations, which need their own technology. The extracted alchemy guide describes the same distinction. Buying technology to reveal the tower folio is useful, but it is not a demonstrated hard gate for every Laboratory mixture.
- Study the ingredients so they appear in the mixing selector; compare their exact RGB totals with the desired product.
- Count ingredients, not runes: Laboratory I has two slots and Laboratory II has three in the extracted mechanics record. A three-ingredient Beeswax + Onion + Water Miracle proposal needs three slots; a supported two-ingredient alternative is a separate mix.
- Check the same-room Flask shelf/rack and the current mixing prompt. If the three-ingredient recipe cannot fit, do not keep retrying it in a two-slot station.
- After making the elixir, use Peat and the separate fertilizer operation at the Formulation Bench, then inspect the empty garden bed’s application slot.
Reanimation Liquid has a conflicting station label. Its extracted item record labels Laboratory I in a field while its prose calls for Laboratory II for three ingredients. The three-ingredient examples above and in the zombie guide are therefore not instructions for Lab I. The same capacity problem applies to three-ingredient Alkali examples; do not infer a certain unlock chain from the old label.
Reviewed October 20, 2026. Player exact patch/platform unspecified; extracted source build 4599483364566526977 is not a verified 1.010 or console mapping. Rune totals do not establish output yield, research costs or technology-point rewards.
Ordinary Salt: a cremation lead, not Third Eye Salt
The extracted Salt record and graveyard mechanics record list Salt from ordinary corpse cremation at Crematorium I. Check the building operation and actual output in your game; these records do not supply a current, independently tested construction walkthrough here.
An ordinary corpse is not a resurrected zombie. This Salt lead does not establish a way to burn unwanted zombies; use the separate removal answer. Third Eye Salt is a different named item, so match the exact quest or recipe before gathering ordinary Salt.
The Salt entry’s seller prose and trader table disagree about Baker and Apothecary. A single guaranteed purchasing NPC is not established. Check actual trade stock rather than treating the conflicting table as a complete shopping route.
